ABOUT
Blueburst isn’t your typical band of starry-eyed twenty-somethings making their debut. It’s the brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Craig Douglas Miller, who resurrected a music career he had once written off, and is now taking Blueburst from recording project to full-fledged live band.
After major label interest in his 1990s band, The Reach, never quite panned out, Miller entered a 20-plus-year period of musical hibernation, the result of untreated clinical depression, writer’s block, and, as he puts it, “perhaps a few too many gin and tonics.”
A fortuitous meeting with legendary guitarist Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, Noctorum, All About Eve) changed everything. Miller found both a trusted mentor and collaborator. Inspired by Willson-Piper’s guidance and with time on his hands during the pandemic, Miller resurrected his home studio and began writing again. The result was Blueburst (named after the finish on Miller’s favorite guitar) and the 2023 debut album, Significance.
Together, Miller and Willson-Piper create a lush, guitar-driven sound rooted in the alternative and post-punk music of the ’80s, but with a modern, timeless feel. Blueburst proudly embraces the crunch, chime and jangle of its influences while steering clear of nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. “A lot of people still listen to the records they grew up with because there’s a rawness and honesty in that music,” says Miller. “That authenticity is what we’re trying to capture.”
Lyrically, Blueburst draws on Miller’s unusual second act as a songwriter: losing decades to creative paralysis, rediscovering music in middle age, and realizing that the clock is very much ticking. Themes of mortality, reinvention, regret and making the most of whatever time remains run throughout the songs.
Blueburst’s first single, “Vanish,” arrived in March 2023, followed by Significance that October.
But in 2026, Blueburst enters its next chapter by making the leap from studio to stage. Seasoned players Ben Etter (bass), Andrew Keller (guitar) and Dana Locatell (drums) will join Miller (and perhaps Willson-Piper?) for Blueburst’s first electric live shows in Fall 2026, transforming the layered guitar sound of the records into an electric live sound.
At the same time, Craig, Marty and collaborators are hard at work finishing Blueburst’s second album. Beginning October 1, 2026, the band will release a new single every month, culminating in the release of the full album in April 2027.
What began as Miller’s unlikely return to music has since become something considerably bigger: a band, a growing catalog of songs, and proof that sometimes a second act can turn out to be the main event.

PRAISE FOR BLUEBURST
“He lenses themes of regret, joy, and heartache through the prism of his own renewed perspectives – he speaks of seizing opportunities and finding ways in which to leave his mark through cathartic lyrical narratives and incisive musical atmospheres.”
- Beats Per Minute
Blueburst have included that undefinable quality where they understand, god knows how, how we tick…. We live for tunes that can polish away all that hard grown-up exterior and ‘Senseless’ does that to reveal the quivering mess underneath."
- MP3 Hugger
“A powerful blend between R.E.M and Foo Fighters, balancing its act among brute, punchy force and mellow melodies. Honestly, a fantastic record, that needs to be experienced at least once. Finally some energy and exuberance!”
- Mezmerized
“I can only conclude that no one writes better indie songs than him.”
Thoughts Words Action
”The intense rhythm section team up with the swirling guitars, to create a sound that is larger than life; grabbing your attention and holding it.”
- Earmilk
“This is real rock. This is the way rock used to be. It’s an experience. It’s a return. A coming back to where things used to be. Where so many of us want them to be….Simply put, this one is badass.”
- Review Fix
“It makes you want to drive off into the sunset and never look back.’Vanish’ is the kind of cathartic song a lot of us need right now.”
